Castelnuovo Magra



The charming municipality of Castelnuovo Magra, located in the Ligurian province of La Spezia, belongs historically and culturally to the bassa Lunigiana (lower part of Lunigiana region). It is an ancient village located on Mount Bastione from which one can admire the Magra river plain and a breathtaking panorama. On clear days, you can see the islands of Gorgona and Capraia and sometimes even Corsica. The historical centre of the town is rich in history with many churches and ancient monuments. Today, Castelnuovo Magra has more than 8000 inhabitants.

Like all villages in Lunigiana, Castelnuovo is also a village on the border with another region. It borders directly on Fosdinovo (Tuscan province of Massa Carrara) and is 20 minutes from Marina di Carrara (Tuscany) and 15 minutes from the charming town of Sarzana (Liguria).

The beaches of Marinella and other characteristic seaside resorts, such as Bocca di Magra, Lerici and San Terenzo, all of which are part of the Golfo dei Poeti region, are only 10/15 km away. In addition, the Apuan Alps, which offer many opportunities for mountain excursions and skiing, can be seen behind the town. Therefore, Castelnuovo Magra is the ideal place for those who want to experience a combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The nearest motorway exit to reach Castelnuovo Magra is Sarzana. The nearest convenient airport is Pisa, about 45 minutes away by car. Alternatively, there is Genoa airport, about 1h 30 or Florence airport, two hours' drive away.

The nearest railway station is in Sarzana (SP), directly connected to many cities, including Pisa, Milan and Rome.

Castelnuovo Magra is approximately 2h 30 from Milan, 2 hours from Florence, 4h 30 from Rome and 4h from Venice.
